Question about where to find chickens

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

A while back I ordered a catalog for rare and old varieties of chickens and other fowl. But I haven't gotten it yet. What's worse is I can't remember the name of the catalog. Could anyone of ya'll tell me about some that you know of. The kids and I are looking for something really different to enter in the county fair next fall. Maybe even a 4H project. We would like to get started as soon as possible. Thanks!

i would highly recomend Sandhill.Glen is doing a wonderful job trying to preserve the rare poultry breeds.he has small breeding flocks so you have to be patient .He does not destroy unsold chicks the breeds he has are to rare.Glen gives a great deal on mixed run chicks for that reason . I ordered welsummers and rounded out my order with mixed chicks ,lol i like some of the overrun chickens better so far ,i have a big shmo rooster that thinks he is a pet ,the welsummers arnot laying yetbut thay are nice looking hensglen packs extras and i have always had good luck on thier arival .if i had the time i would probably start wandering to poultry shows
