Cream Separator, where to get one.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

There appears to be a cream separator available that sits on top of a food processor, it weighs only about 3Lbs, does up to 50 litres of milk in one hour. You can see on web page :

Yes I know thats in Russia but they appear to have a US agency.

When looking at this unit don't forget shipping, customs and the availability of spare parts/service.

For a price comparison a unit which will do 40-liter per hour is priced at $705 in the NASCO catalog (800-558-9595 or info@enasco.com).

Good point Ken, with US$700 to spend it might be prudent to order about three of the russian ones! For the same amount of money you might consider buying an economy class return ticket to New Zealand, where you might find perfectly good separator for $50 and take it home in you luggage!

John:

If they are that cheap in New Zealand perhaps you should consider going into the export business with direct sales in the U.S.

Hey guys, regarding parts and service, the machine that separator sits on looks IDENTICAL to a Bosch Universal - a top-end, readily available machine. The attachments all look like Bosch attachments, too. I'm guessing it's a Bosch sold by a foreign licensee.

Well, it seems that we still do not know where to get a good, reasonable cream separator. ...and how much I would like to know! Specially if it is in NZ or Australia!

Cream separators are commonly available in antique shops throughout NZ with prices of about $100-$200. Obviously an antique shop is perhaps the most expensive place to buy such things so IMHO they are available for about $50 from the original owners, if you can find them.

You could try a free classified advertisment in Buy, Sell and Exchange see www.buy-sell-exchange.co.nz/free.asp

If you do advertise in NZ I suggest you list your email address for reply as I doubt many people will call you from here.

I have seen two cream separators for sale in New Zealand. One small Lister, one small Alfa Laval. The Alfa Laval is one of the streamlined white models (it would go well with your 60's Pontiac). I did not examine them but I have been assured that they are complete, even with hand books.

I think the Lister is hand cranked, the other electric, which will be 240V 50HZ.

The NZ$ is currently very close to US0.40c, so get in now while the price is right!

Hi all, I blundered into this thread whilst looking for info on Lister Separators.

FWIW, I had a good response in the Far North of NZ by spreading the word through the farming community, turns out one was sitting in the back of an old milking shed. Fully operational with BIG bag of bits - all for NZ$100.

I'd been hunting unsuccessfully for several months before tackling the farmers directly and have to say that IMHO for a servicable unit you are really looking at NZ$200 upwards. The machines I've seen in antique shops have been $300+ and most (if not all) of those units were in poor functional condition (rusted or broken,or the caulks on the stack were badly worn). Alfa Laval will rebuild discs for almost any separator....for a fee.

If you are seriously after a separator, ask the farmers. SHOOF, the NZ farm supplies crowd in Hamilton, has brand new machines for about $1000 (electric) and $2000 (manual) - I'll a vintage one thanks.

Thanks Peter, so it REALLY is possible to find a serviceable machine for US$42!

Lehman's sells cream separators.

One is $250 and says it processes up to 50 qts per hour (it is hand cranked) and the other is a gravity system (capacity 10 gallons) for $200.

I have a Jr. Delaval Separator #2, sitting in my basement. One of my aunt's left it to me before she died because when I spent summers on her farm, I was the one to turn the crank.
