Damned if I can figue out why...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

the folks in Hollywood insist on taking a hard stand. Alec Baldwin has eliminated one half of the people who might see one of his movies. Cher has eliminated one half of the people who might buy her next album, Bah-bah-ra Streisand has done the same, but she sux so it might not matter. Rosie O Donnell has eliminated one half of the people who might watch her show. Martin Sheen has now pissed off half of the country with his "white knuckle drunk" comment. I don't get it.

If I was a Hollywood mogul, I would have a "no politics" clause in an actor's contract. I mean, what do you gain by pissing off one half of the people who might spend their money on your work?

I don't get it.

PS, Alec Baldwin's aircraft has been re-fueled and is still sitting on the runway of JFK international with it's engines running, waiting for the outcome.

Damn, I need a proof reader, anyone want the job?

Bah-bah-ra Streisand has done the same, but she sux so it might not matter.

^^^ I will agree to be your proof reader upon one condition....

You retract the above statement as she IS my favorite.

She DOES NOT SUCK....just ask James.

Geez, Unk. If I went to movies or concerts based on the political preferences of the actors/singers, etc., I'd be home most of the time. What difference does it make to the average movie-goer or concert-goer what political opinions these folks hold? Would you stop going to your barber if you learned he felt differently than you?

We don't judge folks on their political preferences. We judge them on their competence in the areas in which we're interested in their performance. At least *I* do.

Big D,

It's all publicity, hon.

'sumer,

What are we going to do with you?!

Uncle Deedah,

Is gilda in the airplane with Alec?

Also, has there been any word on whether or not they were able to talk Cher into going with them?

Gee Unk...maybe its because the have convictions. And not the "DUI" kind.

-- (@ .), November 13, 2000.

Most conservatives have very strong convictions and I know for a fact that many will react just as Unk has said. They will not put money in those entertainers pockets just so they (the entertainer) can insult them with their anti-conservative views.

-- Nomony (losingmoney@the.box), November 13, 2000.

Alec, Whoopi, Barbra, etc are very strong believers in the Church of Our Lady of Trendy Leftism and, since they are already rich, they are willing to sacrifice some further success by witnessing for their faith.

Also, I have to believe that they are so egotistical that they actually think they can influence some votes (and they may be right).

Martin Sheen is so typical of the serious addict. Because he, and his one son, could not control their own mind and cravings they want to label everyone else with the same weakness and absence of self- control. But the real message here is the desperation of those who fear they will no longer be Btaken care ofB by their protectors in D.C. Perfect Democrats make sub-standard citizens.

Yeah, to hell with Free Speech. Actors don't deserve to have an opinion. It's this kind of close-minded Republican shit that scares the hell out of me. "Think exactly like us or be condemned as Scum!" What dismal dregs of your soul do you get this Nazi crap from anyway?

-- Disgusted (BySmall@Minds.com), November 13, 2000.

"disgusted",

You obviously didn't understand Unc's post. You obviously don't know Unc's politics. You obviously are a dim bulb.

-- (nemesis@awol.com), November 13, 2000.

I understand exactly where Unk is coming from and my original comment stands. BTW - resorting to name-calling isn't exactly a Genius response.

-- They're (All@Alike.com), November 14, 2000.

Half the public has the right to boycott. That's exactly what Barbra said to do when Colorado voters didn't vote the way she saw fit. Actors have every right to speak their minds and the public has every right to see (or not) their movies or concerts based on whatever reasons they choose.

Anita, "Geez, Unk. If I went to movies or concerts based on the political preferences of the actors/singers, etc., I'd be home most of the time. " If this were true and since mostly all these professionals are democrats, then you'd probably only miss Arnold's movies. I don't think you'd be home most of the time. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought you were democrat. :)

-- Maria (anon@ymous.com), November 14, 2000.

Maria:

Bruce Willis is a staunch Republican. So is Bo Derek. There are many more.

I'm not a Democrat. I vote for the person(s) I prefer in elections. Generally, I make my decisions based on voting records and how closely the candidates voted FOR things I want or AGAINST things I don't want. That's hard to do with NEW candidates, so I must trust their platform. I've never voted straight party in my life.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), November 14, 2000.

Bo Derek is a Republican? Wow, I thought it was only macho guys like Bruce and Clint and Arnold.

-- (TEN@Ravel's.Bolero), November 14, 2000.

Anita, yet, the only time you voted for republican president was for Bush the first time around and only because his wife had a gut. I remember that post (it was in an Unc thread on how women vote). I think (my memory is questioned by Hawk, afterall he was in my living room this morning watching the press conference with me but i digress...) you only started to carefully look at candidates during the next election with Clinton running. (grin)

-- Maria (anon@ymous.com), November 14, 2000.

Unk,

Is it true that you only listen to music by The Nuge?

-- flora (***@__._), November 14, 2000.

relaxin' with The Nuge

-- (not@PETA.com), November 14, 2000.

"disgusted",

So you do know the difference between a Republican, a Libertarian and a Nazi? And your "original comment stands"?

I apologize---you are not a dim bulb. You are a dishonest bulb.

-- (nemesis@awol.com), November 14, 2000.

Maria:

I think you have an imposter again.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), November 14, 2000.

Disgusted,

What you classify as Nazi shit is simple free market economics. Since you are indeed a dim bulb let me explain.

Let us suppose that I, a big-time Hollywood mogul, am about to begin making a big-budget action-packed movie, or as we moguls call it, a fil-um. Now because the actor in my last fil-um made stupid statements like "white-knuckle drunk" I am convinced that my box- office receipts were not as boffo as they would have been without the "white knuckle drunk" comment.

Because of that I, a big-time Hollywood mogul, want to insert a "no outrageous or vitriolic political speach" clause into an actor's contract. I am pouring tens of millions of dollars and nearly a year of my life into this project, and I don't want some dim-bulb actor killing me at the box-office by accusing the President of being a reptile alien who eats small children. So I insert the political speach clause into the contract.

Now here is the part that might be confusing to you, BUT, the actor is free to sign it, or not sign it! Amazing huh? If the actor wants this part in my new fil-um he will keep his yap shut about our reptile alien Commander-in-Chief. If the actor insists that the people must be warned about the reptile alien leader of the free world, he will not sign it, and thus not get the part in my new fil- um.

If I then, as a big-time Hollywood mogul begin to lose my best actors to other moguls who do not have that clause in their contract, I am free to amend or remove that clause. See? It is the free market in action. Free market, zero Nazism, see how it works?

Hee hee.
