Need natural cure for yeast infection?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

My 6 year old little girl seems to have a yeast infection (rash) on her private area. A week ago I noticed some red bumps in the front area, she told me she thought they were insect bites, so we've been doctoring with calydryl, it seemed they were getting better then last night during her bath, they looked worse, she told me the calydryl burned so I didn't put anymore on her but looked a little closer at the rest of her and the red dotted bumps are all in the front where she will one day have pubic hair, but down on her bottom she seems to have a rash like diaper rash. She doesn't seem to be real uncomfortable with it, she's not clawing at herself like us big girls do. I'd like to hear from any whose little girls have had this and anyone who might suggest a more natural cure. She was on two rounds of antibiotics a couple months ago for bladder infections, we've since found the cause of these and she hasn't had any more. We've pretty much dried our goats off, but I may could get some from a neighbor I know the acidophulis would help. Does anyone know of a natural topical something I could put on her In addition to something taken orally to combat the yeast in her body? Thanks in advance.

The acidophulis capsules work great, I take a Vitimin B along with them. It's usually gone in a day. Antibotics will do that, especially more than 10 days. I take them with antibotics, so you don't get one. Try giving her yogurt to eat. And cottage cheese. Once the tummy acids are back to normal, it should clear up. Antibotics destroy the balance in your tummy, and you have to put the "good stuff" back in there. I don't know about anything to put on it.

When is was expecting the twins i had a yeast infection that would not go away, my doctor told me to use yogurt as a "douch" just plain yogurt cleared it up and i would apply it once a day"night" to keep it away.i worked fast,i also would eat 2 cups aday. i know some antibiotics will cause a real bad infection, nystatin ointment will clear it up also but it is a prescription.

Yogurt, yogurt, yogurt! In the mouth, smear it on, use it frequently. It will restore the ph balance in the body and the problems will go away.

You can also keep yeast breads, white flour, sugars and pre-processed foods out of her diet, as these feed the yeast. Garlic is also a number one fighter of yeast. Good luck.

Besides eating the yogurt and keeping her on cranberry juice or the capsules, you can also use the over the counter yeast cures, Monostate etc, as a cream and not insert the applicator. Since the yeast infection came from antibiotics you may have to be a little more aggressive. Make sure you do have her on the yogurt and acidopholus in the future if she needs antibiotic therapy again. Vicki

It's absolutely essential to eliminate all sugars from her diet; sugar is what yeast feeds on. In addition to heavy dosages of garlic, add vitamin c several times through the day, starting with perhaps half a gram and increasing the amount, depending on how much her body is used to, only because too much c all once can cause diarrhea. Using oil of oregano is very effective for candida; it is expensive, but a little bottle goes a long way. You only need 2 or 3 drops once a day, mixed in broth or whatever. Next time a doctor wants to give her antibiotics, I would suggest you do some homework to discover all the natural alternatives. Antibiotics are almost never necessary; I think they should be used only in extreme life-threatening circumstances, in which case they can be miraculous therapies.

For those who were suggesting topical yogurt let me add this caution- use unsweetened yogurt! No sweetening of any kind! It will feed the yeast and make it worse.

My mom always recommended a vinegar bath. It changes the PH. I would add about a 1/2 cup to a bathtub full.

If you're looking for something topical to heal and sooth her (that doesn't burn) try this: take equal parts of (dried) comfrey leaves, chickweed and calendula petals. I use about 1/2 cup each herb. Cover with a vegetable oil-I use sunflower and heat low and slow for several hours, or overnight in a crock pot on low. This can also be done in glass, crock or stainless steel on a not-so-hot area of the wood stove. The goal is to keep it hot but not to burn or cause the oil to smoke. Strain the oil, it should look medium to dark olive colored, and add about 1 ounce of beeswax per cup of oil and about 1/2 teaspoon of tea tree oil. let cool, it should be just solid at toom temp. Smear on as needed. Anti-fungal, soothing and doesn't burn. we went through this with our daughter and three tubes of expensive ( and useless) cream later, I came up with this recipe. It worked so well that I sell it for athlete's foot, yeast rashes and other itchy or fungal skin problems. Hope this helps. Shelf life is about 1 year.

As a nurse for 20 plus years and the mother of a teenaged daughter and someone who gets yeast infections every time I need antibiotic therapy, I've come up with some wonderful solutions! Yogurt does work well. Both eating it and using it as a douche to restore the natural chemistry in the vagina. I don't think that you should jump to that with a 6 year old first tho. Try some over the counter topical medications such as nystatin or mycelex. Also, avoid sitting in baths. The warm water is a wonderful medium for the yeast to grow and multiply. Showers are much better. If she is really uncomfortable a cool (not cold) bath will each the itching and burning. Also cotton underwear during the day and none at night helps air to reach the area. A warm, moist area is a perfect breeding area for many infections including yeast. Hope this helps.

My first thought was also vinegar BUT not for a little girl..think the yogurt sounds more reasonable.

I'm another one of those "lucky" gals who gets yeast infections on a semi-regular basis. Eating yogurt does seem to help prevent it in my case. I also stay away from heat & moisture traping clothes (use cotton undies & a skirt instead of pants if possibel). What your daughter has does not sound like my yeast infections, more like a heat rash or urine irritation. You might want to have it looked at by your doc just to be on the safe side.

i have crohn's disease!!! the massive dose of antibiotics needed to save my life caused me to have a fight with candida-albicans for 3 years. i descoverd certain aides that help to battle a yeast infection. yeast-overgroth is highly regarded in the U.K. as one of the most divorce ridden complexes! yes, yeast infections are very tough to beat! however, if you are willing to deal w/massive mood swings & extreme diet restrictions you will find it is less troubelsome than going the gentle route! cut back on all refiend sugar. add garlic in mass quantities to your diet. drink at least 2 cups of rosemarey tea per day. a tincture of rosemary is more efecive in a base of alcohol. yeast cannot live in more than 14% alcohol. oil extraction is the best!! i found out that common 40% booze can kill of candida- albicans quite fast if you cut off all refined sugars. more than this i can't offer.>>>brian hull

My oldest child, now 20 yrs old, had suffered, from the rash you described, for years when he was a child. As he grew the rashes and additional symptoms became worse, finally we discovered the source - yeast. Today he is symptom free ( and medication free ) providing he sticks with his diet - no sugars / no yeasted products. Each person is different, my son needs only to eat a healthy, whole foods diet and he can include many of the foods normally avoided when on a yeast- free diet. Once he embarked on the necessary dietary changes his symptoms began clearing up quickly. Carol, please feel free to contact me if you'd like more information about this diet, it's easy, healthy and the whole family can enjoy it.

Off the subject a bit-I just made the salve that Denyelle gave the recipe for, but I used fresh comfrey, etc. and it came out great. I'm going to use it on my very chapped hands. I was a bit surprised that it rubbed it nicely, rather than being greasy. Thanks! Cathy in NY

carol, use the yogurt the vinegar baths to keep the yeast away, but also dont over look tea tree oil, its a life saver, (literaly). go on the net and look it up. you willbe surprised. i dont go anywhere without it. GOD BLESS .cody

I agree with the yogurt. My doctor told me to eat it and you can simply place the yogurt on the irratation. I would be cautious about using any over the counter medications on such a young girl. I would also be cautious in using any douches also. It was probely the antibiotics that caused a yeast infection, but if it persists, you may want to have her tested for diabetes since yeast infection reoccurrance is a symptom of diabetes. See a doctor if this is the case. Hope she gets well soon, those are nasty!!!

Every thing you've read before, plus olive leaf extracts, caprylic acid (from coconut oil), paud'arco (a tree bark), undecalynic acid (Formula SF722, from Thorpe Research) it is made from caster beans. Malic acid (from cider vinegar) garlic, carrot juice, tea tree oil, well some where repetes, but the less common ones should be available from a heatj food store or by mail order online.
