However, there can be latency issues with shared interrupts. Let's say you have N devices sharing an interrupt, and all of them want service at the same time. It takes a finite time to service each one, and *somebody* must be last in line. Can you get to this last guy too late?

Unfortunately, yes you can. Let's say it's a network adapter. It added its interrupt to the list when a packet came in, and before it got serviced, *another* packet came in. ONE of those packets gets dropped. Depending on what got dropped, it might be graceful (a retry the user never notices) or catastrophic (power down, reboot and reinstall the protocol stack).

Latency considerations are a key instance where hardware and firmware people should design together.

We have a cat that disappears every year sometime in late May to early July, and returns November 4th. We look forward to seeing him again in a couple of weeks. It's been 6 years now that this has happened.

That's one strange cat you have there. Then again, I think *all* cats are strange. (Why do they all-of-a-sudden, absolutely, positively have to be in a different room in the next nano-second?!?!)

(My dogs are pretty strange, too. And my parrot, who apparently has been conversing with said dogs, and now *barks*. I am not making this up.)

Yep. All cats are strange. My girlfriend keeps saying that he's just gone on an extended hunting trip, but he's never been gone for more than a day, and he has no good reason to leave: the food's great and he gets a lot of attention.

I'm afraid something bad has happened. No one has seen him in his territory, and I covered it twice. Much to my embarrassment, one of the new neighbors called the police when she saw me on my belly, knocking on the basement windows of a vacant house. I was wearing a reflective vest and calling loudly, hardly housebreaker behavior. Fortunately, the police officer decided that I was telling the truth and ended his interview with me in less than 60 seconds. He had never seen a housebreaker wearing a reflective vest.

And, yes, I've checked the shelters. They have pictures. This is a bummer. The rest of my life is going so well! Guess Gilda was right: "It's always something."

I never let my cats outside here in the city. My sis let her cat out the other day and someone shot it in the neck with a bb gun. Poor kitty, its alive but in pain.
