organizational models: need options for changing the way we control costs...

I work for an IPS agency (internet professional services) - our clients are best-of-breed Fortune 1000 companies. My question is this: we need to transform our organizational model for controlling billing costs from individual client managers to a more centralized accounting manager. Has anyone undergone a change like this, and if so - what has worked and not worked? Our company is growing fast (from 50 to 500 in 2 years) and has multiple geographical locations. We need to avoid the potholes that others have fallen into!

Many consulting firms have faced these issues, but you need to be more specific before we can help you. Control billing costs in what way? Why is this important to your firm? If you could describe your desired future state a bit more clearly, it would be much easier to suggest viable models and to know whether our own experiences are on point or not.
