Which company is the best to co-develop and/or host my (a start-up) web-enabled program for e-transactions without the fear of being "eaten"?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : What keeps you up at night? : One Thread

I am looking for both an ASP and a software development company that will assist me with the development and implementing a e-transaction system for the construction industry. This system will be value based, sustainable and will produce profits. I am located in Irvine California. AL

Can I ask a question? Why are you afraid of being "eaten"? Perhaps you should change the focus of your concern a little bit and see if that helps take you in the direction you want to go. Here's what I mean:

You may not want to lose control of your baby, but really, it maybe the best thing that can happen is for you to give birth to it and move on to the next project. If that is the case, then what you REALLY need to be concerned about is getting cheated when you hand your baby over to that bigger company.

Think about what you REALLY want. Financial benefits that will allow you to step on to your next brain-child? A successfull project that moves you forward on the path of your career? A start up company under your belt? Write all the things you want down, and start thinking about how to negotiate for those things as you partner with a bigger company.

If what you REALLY want is just to have your own company and to spend the rest of your career on THIS baby, then you should think twice about partnering up with any large company that will be looking at you as a potential buyout opportunity. There are other ways to get money and market exposure.

ALan take a look at corio, they have leveraged other people and systems to create a global ASP base. People are beginning to become more accustomed to partnerships as means of growth. Of course this is a large company, so that might not abate your fears, but they might have a solution that might alleviate some work you might of thought of doing yourself.

Apart from corio, the ASP market is in a great period of flux. The only other ASP I can think of is exodus, which you can find at
