building material sheets from wheat straw (ATTN: Notforprint)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I'm hoping Notforprint will see this. You mentioned in the cost of straw thread that a local company was producing building material sheets from wheat straw. Can you tell me the name of the company, and any other info you have (address, phone, website, etc.)? There was a company called Agriboard, in both Texas and Iowa, that made such a product, but they quit production. It was hoped that they'd be back at it in the future, possibly in 2000. Is this the same company? If so, are they up and running again?

Thanks for your help

Nope, it's not the same company. The company is appropriately enough called Prairie Forest Products. It is my understanding that they are currently selling all of their production to the mobile home industry. The local company has been up and running for a couple of years and have had tremendous setbacks. They have had two fires of stored straw bales, and while I haven't heard, I suspect arson by it happening twice. I can't imagine a motive.

The mailing address is 200 South Obee Road, Hutchinson, KS, 67501. The phone number is currently 316-665-7000, but will be changing after the first of the year to 620-665-7000.

Thank you! It's nice to know that they're putting something more ecologically friendly into them.

I can't imagine a reason for the arson either -- maybe it's a personal grudge, or someone who is doing it just because they can. :-(
