enamel ware

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi I was wondering if any one could help. We are building a house and I want a vegtable sink on my island with a pull out faucet close enough to the stove top for filling large pots. I have seen the surface mounted sinks that look like bowls sitting on the counter and I would like to do the same only use a red spatterware wash pan. It would go better with my decorating style and I think it would be more durable than porcelin. Does anyone know where I can get a pan like this I want a new one so I dont have to worry about thin spots that might spring a leak. My husband says he can plumb it if I can find it, I think this would be great for filling the canner etc. thanks for any help or comments. Ronda

Ronda,

Have you checked Cumberland General Store? Or Leahmans?I think they carry enamel ware. I don't know the url off hand. Just type in the name and press search? Good luck, sounds neat!

What a neat idea! I hadn't thought about doing something like that. I don't know how you will seal the drain, but I imagine that the enamel will chip off when drilled and will rust in that area unless sealed properly.

Lehmans Hardware carries the Granny ware but I'm not sure they have it in red. I'm sure that they could advise you be email whether or not they have it or can get it. It seems I have a recollection of the red being imported from Mexico and was not safe to use. Kind of like the lead found in some pttery glazes.

That stuff is in ALL the tourist stores in lancaster County PA, so I cannot imagine it is hard to find. If you run into a problem, let me know by e-mail and I will ask one of my buddies to scoot around and find out who manufactures it..I'll bet Lehmans' knows. God bless...
