Need instructions on steam juice extractor

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I just bought a steam juice extractor at the local thrift store and it didn't come with instructions. Looks pretty basic to operate, but I'd appreciate help. How long to steam for juice? Is the time different for different foods? Is there a general rule of thumb? And, is there a place I can get an instruction booklet online or off? The brand is Mehu-Maya. Thanks in advance. Bev

I don't know if my extractor works the same or not, but here goes. Fill the bottom with water, not too much or when it boils you will have a mess to clean. After it is boiling, turn it down to simmer. Place the washed fruit, I never peel or anything, into the top and place over the water. I do this before it is boiling. Place the lid on top. Make sure the clamp is tight on the tubing (check that the tubing does not have holes). In a while you will see juice in the tubing. Begin to drain it off. This is the part where if you are not careful, you'll have juice on the floor or countertop. It is gravity feed.

I hope this helps. I've rather rambled in the directions. Good Luck.

I've made grape juice, V8, and apple juice with my extractor. The apple doesn't taste too good, and it takes a lot of apples and a lot of time to get the juice out. Grape juice is wonderful. V8 worked great, so would plain tomato juice. Any juicy fruit works fine. Just get the water boiling in the bottom section and put the fruit on the top section. The juice runs out and fills the middle section. Be careful to empty it into jars periodically or it will run over. Mary
