about my midwifery post.....

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

to those of you who had responded to my asking advice on midwifery...this is what I've done. I've ordered two books that are part of the required reading for most of the midwifery cert. places, and I have contacted a local doctor asking him if he would consider letting me work with him, on a volunteer basis, as a doula. (Birth assistant.) The doctor is a very loving Christian man. Prior to my HOMEBIRTH he visited with me and even gave me a sono and a script for Methegrine (sp?) in case of excessive bleeding at homebirth. He then gave my midwife a gracious thumbs up, green light on the homebirth. Is this cool or WHAT?!!!So...I'm hoping, praying that I can work with him.

I'd stick close to that doctor! He sounds like he could be a wealth of information... not to mention a wonderful support person! God's blessings to you!!

Wow Beth what a gift, where do you live? When I had my last homebirth went to our family Dr. for a bladder infection and when he found out I was using a midwife he hit the roof, finally I found a Osteopath 60 miles away who saw me several times during the p.g. when I need to and gave me a sonogram, then when I tore 2&3rd degree he met me at the hospital and sewed me up, midwife could've sewed me up on the first degree tear on the old episeotomy, but not in the kegal muscle which was a lot worse, nice old Dr. didn't gripe at me at all. good luck, I'd love to do this someday but I've just got my plate is just to full. maybe in my 50's when all my kiddos are grown.
