Freezer stopped

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Okay...the toilet is fixed and we have water pressure..now the freezer isn't working.

The side is hot and it makes a running noise, but thank goodness we had just borrowed our neighbors freezer and were able to put all our beef into it.

Anyone know what to look for first?

It sounds like your compressor has gone out and that a service call will be required. As an aside, what some people do is to keep any unused freezer space filled with frozen jugs of water. If something happens it gives several days grace for whatever is in it. What did your commode problem turn out to be?

Cher! Several things it could be. Assumiong the compressor is running, of course--depending upon the brand and type-some have the Condensing coils embedded in a side or two while on the inside wall is the evaporator coil. If it has another small coil in back by the compressor compartment or over the entire backside-exposed, make sure they are clean and free of lint, dust or whatever. They will be HOT when working properly. Feel inside and see if it's cold alongside the walls. I would guess it's not the thermostat-which will make it cycle too often if faulty, but rather a leak due to the steel lines used for the coils. They rust over time and allow the F12 to escape. If this is the case---junksville! Buy a new one with something different than Freon 12! Matt. 24:44
