Is Klamath Falls, Oregon still rural??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

My husband is thinking of moving us back to the Klamath Falls, Oregon area where he lived about 20 years ago. He remembers it being rural, "woodsy", and relatively affordable. Is this still true? Can a person find a a rural farmstead for about $100,000 anymore? Any feedback from one who knows the area would be great.

Yes, it is rual and not far from the woods. But it seems to be growing fast. Yes you could still get a place for that much money. The farther out of town the cheaper land is. But in the last 20 years the town of k-falls has probably doubled in size. The econmy is still real low. Don't know where you live now but its is so pretty around the area. Lots of mountain lakes for fishing and hunting etc.

I don' know how prices are over in K-falls but $100K will not buy much here north of Grants Pass. I do know that the winters over there are cold and snowy even though the countryside is beautiful. I have been looking on the net for places around the Rogue Valley and even a mobile home on 5 acres can be over 125K. a lot has changed here in 20 years. Even tho we have no sales tax there is a hefty income tax, gasoline taxes too, property taxes can get ugly and wages are sub-standard. It is a trade off tho, for beauty & the climate. The further nort and more rural you get the better the prices will be. I do know of a 20 acre piece on a creek with a small cabin, off the grid, well & septic, remote with timber for 100K, it is north of Rogue River, up in the mountains.

Hi, The area southwest of Grants Pass, Illinois Valley, is rural and relatively affordable still. The climate is a LOT milder than Klamath Falls with only occasional snowfall in the valley. We love it here in Selma, OR!!

Yes the Illinois Valley is a good place and prices certaiinly better, not to mention the weather plus being close to the coast.
