what went wrong with the rootbeer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Water, sugar, rootbeer flavoring from Lehman's. Sent to Portage Hills for the good yeast. Bottled it, then three days in the kitchen - ligh and warmth. Then two weeks in the basement - dark and cool. No fizz at all. After four weeks - no fizz at all. What should I do differently - because, of course, I'm trying it again.

Sounds like the yeast is dead. I don't know how it works, but did you have it hot at some stage of the process. Might the yeast have been added when or before it was too hot?

Patience! Sometimes it takes a long time! Try opening one in a month! If that doesn't work wait longer. Yeast doesn't usually die out altogether, but it may become weak. GL!
