dogfennel

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Per the county agent, his way of getting rid of dogfennel is by using lv2-4-d (weed-killer). This is about a 10 acre pasture. Cattle do like it,which may be good. It smells like carrots. Spreading quickly. Bushhogging slows it down, disking up merely spreads as well, very deep roots for a small weed.

We are in the North Mississippi area.

Thanks in advance for any help.

George, Your county agent is right. The ONLY thing which will get rid of dog fennel is a really good herbicide. After 15 years of trying to defeat it for reasons of organic gardening, we had to admit defeat and use Roundup. One thing you may not know about dogfennel. It is a really effective bug repellant. Take a few heads, roll them around in your palms until they start exuding a green juice and then rub the juice on exposed skin and around your socks. Repels mosquitoes, chiggers and ticks. Otherwise, it is useless! Good luck, John and Pat

John & Pat,

Not much hope I see. But I meant to say cattle do NOT like dogfennel, instead of liking the mess. Now, all I need to do is find a 55-100 gal.sprayer(cluster) and someone to buy all the chemicals. Thanks to you both.
