Sue: I've always wanted to go to England, home of my maternal grandmother. What type of garden/animals are you intersted in? I would be interested in a swap with you, and I'm sure some others would be, too. I live in Colorado, on the hot, dry plains, so, cool, green, England sounds wonderful to me right now! Jan

Hi Sue,

We lived in Plymouth for 4 years. Our family (my husbands) are all in Norwich (Drayton, Lyng and Reepham). We get over every once in a while. We have a small farm in the Ozark mountains now. I'd love to exchange letters, ideas, experiences etc. We have friends with a smallholding in Wales and their letters are such a joy. It's nice to see the progress they are making. Please email me if you'd like to be penpals.

Of course we could just email but we love getting letters and reading them over a cuppa. Kim

Hi Sue and Welcome. This is a great forum! I left England 20 years ago but still a "Lancashire Lass" from Wigan! My family are all back there. Right now we are in North Carolina but since hubby is in the service we have to move around a lot. We have two acres and raise Nubian dairy goats. Tell us more about your smallholding. Best Wishes, Pauline

Thanks everyone for your replies. We are new to this internet thing .I wasn't sure if I was doing it right! We are as Self Sufficient as poss considering that we have 3 children and a big mortgage on the house. Husband Colin works full time as a bridge inspector, I stay at home, look after things , make bread, cakes jam, chutneys , meals from scratch, collect eggs (160 laying hens ) milk goats( 2 one is a Golden Guersey X sannan the other is a bit of a mystery!) When he gets home from work and at the weekend we do all the other jobs. We grow all our own veg , some fruit, we use scrap wood for our two woodburners.Do own repairs to vehicles and building etc.Try to live more lightly on the land. Hate buying new. Love Libraries and books. Trying to live better on less.
