Bev, here it is, although we never did help poor William in WI with his problem!

When I lived up in New Hampshire every one there used tomato juice. Those big cans they sell at the store. I never had to use it but the local farmers swore by it. Pauline

I have this written down from when we used it years ago. 1 quart Hydrogen Peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, 1 tsp any liquid soap with degreasing ability (dawn etc.) It really was a lifesaver! Vicki

This is from a posting on this forum a while ago. Sorry, I don't know who pasted it. I having a copy printed out and on the frig. you never know when you might have to us this on your dog or yourself. GL

Skunk smell off dogs

Mix one-pint hydrogen peroxide with 1/3-cup baking soda and a squirt of dish detergent. Mix well and apply to dog being careful to keep out of eyes and mouth. It will be quite foamy. Rub around well and than rinse off well with warm water. It certainly is less messy than tomato juice and much more effective. It works because it neutralizes the acid of the skunk spray. I have given this recipe to many people with much success.

Tomato juice does not work. Vinegar works until the dog gets wet. The baking soda receipe sounds interesting. I know they sell a product "Skunk Off" that really works. It has an enzyme in it. The cleaner "Nature's Miricle" works great for urine, blood, sweat, etc.

Rich, I was the one who posted the skunk odor removal recipe. And since I posted it awhile ago, several people have e-mailed me that it really does work. It must be that time of year again! Just a reminder, folks. Skunks do carry rabies...make sure your dogs and cats are up to date. Kate
