desperate mothers

front page arizona republic tells of yolanda gonzales who died this week in the desert trying to bring her daughter, elizima, into arizona-illegally. ironic she died from not enough water. ironic the names are so similar to some other illegals. but you probably won't hear much about little elizima- she is mexican, not cuban. strange we hand out condoms for safe sex and needles for safe drugs but not water for safe passage. lauren

How terrible! I love our country, but I sure do hate the way we're headed. I vehemently disagree with the way our nation treats those who wish to immigrate. The word illegal should not enter into the picture in my opinion. Those who wish to come should be allowed to come. Our founding fathers would have it this way-of this I'm sure. More importantly, the Lord would want this of us-so many times he tells us how to treat strangers in our lands. I'm sure I will be thought of as contentious for this;I'm truly not intending to be such.~TJ

Too bad we can't sentance the buis. owners who hire these illeagals to very long prison terms and exorbinate fines. If they can't get a job there would be no reason to risk this behavior. Then the buis. owners woulld be forced to pay livable wages to U.S. Citizens. Law of supply & demand would keep them home & our people off welfare.

Although I missed my dreamed of confrontation with Janet---upon my review of the situation--I could be wrong. The boy seems as happier with his father as with his relatives. The majority wins. I still believe that anyone has a right to assylum regardless of age or place of origin--I yield the field to you ! My prayers go out to all who stand and spit against the wind--both foriegn and domestic !

They risk it because conditions in their country are so bad.

Yeah, good old immigration. I had a thing or two to do with them, when I immigrated from Germany. The thing that struck me the most, was that they seemed to think, that everybody was just trying to get into the States, because it was so much better than anywhere else. And in a lot of cases that might be true, but other countries have good things going for them, too , (like healthcare is a right, not a privilege for the rich). They assumed that everybody was cheating and lying, just for the chance to enter their country. But behind that all is the big Dollar. It cost us a few hundret , for them to do the paperwork. And did you know that you will get a physical, and a aids-test, before they agree to let you immigrate? If you are handicapped in any way, you are not allowed in. The freedcom to go where you want to go should be a basic human right. The world as a whole could really benefit from people moving around more.
