OTFR - can you change reload settings?greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread |
Even after clearing my cache, it still takes several reloads for new responses to come to the top. I remember they changed the settings before the rollover when the server was too busy to handle all the requests. Can you change it back now since it isn't busy anymore?

Actually, Hawk, I think the problem is that there is little new activity on this forum these days, not because of the setting on the board software. So sad. I miss Y2K. I even miss your discussion on the MD-80. But, hey, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and we should both be pleased that we were able to be a part of it.
Best wishes and Happy Memorial Day (Although I wouldn't even be typing this if it were not raining heavily in Minnesota right now)

No Hawk, I can't change that setting from my end. It's Phil Greenspun who has control over this.OTFR

OTFR -- am I wrong in my guess that the problem is not with forum software?By the way, I don't think I've ever had the chance to say this, but I think you're really doing a great job in managing this forum and appreciate the time and effort you took to set it up after the original/classic bugged out to Ezboard. Never say any point in posting on the EZboard forum myself, and have not done so.
Keep up the good work. Regards on a rainy holiday afternoon.

Thanks anyway.EH, I have a confession, I purposely used the word "truth" in my post about Flight 261 just to piss off the pollys and the skeptics to get the debate rolling. It sure worked! Though I still think my theory has strong possibilities, we'll probably never find out the truth of the actual cause. I'll try to devise some more theories that will get the "Andy Rays" and the "Mikeys" riled up again, we could use a few laughs around here again. :-)

Hawk -- that really you? If there was one thing I could change about this forum, it would be how handles/identities are handled. I am not willing to give an real email address here, as there are a lot of weird people out there (and many of them frequent this forum). On the other hand, I'd appreciate some form of validation; i.e., that whoever this "Hawk" is, he (or she) is (or is not) the Hawk we love (or hate).Take care. Still raining in Minneapolis.

I remember when it changed. It was to try and get rid of the "too busy" situation. The old TB2000 was very busy, and I can understand why the change was made. It really is a bunch of overhead to reorder recent answers after every post. I'm not sure how the current update works, but I think it is based on a delay time, possibly with the number of recent posts involved. Something like update it after 10 new posts, or every 10 minitues, whichever comes first.Since this forum isn't as busy, perhaps it could be changed back. But I guess it depends on the total combined volume of all greenspun forums.

Yes EH, it's really me, the imposter hasn't been around lately. Sysman, I think you're right but since then several thousand dollars were donated to get new servers and I doubt that evn the combination of thenew forums equals the requests that TB2K was putting in last year. Greenspun could probably fix it. Not a big deal really, but I get impatient sometimes. :-)

E.H., thank you for your kind words. I try my best to make this forum enjoyable for everyone, but it's not possible to satisfy everyone. A kind word once in a while makes up for all the flames I get ;-)We are fast aproaching the 30k mark in posts, and we're currently the #1 at the top of the list of the ACTIVE forums on Lusenet. I do think this forum is quite busy, considering that Y2K is over along with the frenzy. With my experience posting on open forums, this one is still very busy compared to others I know, and shows no signs of imminent death.
Sysman, my recollection is the same as yours as to why Phil set the refresh this way. Personally the refresh rate is not bothering me. When I've read everything and nothing new comes up quickly enough, it's a clue for me to get up and do something else ;-)
