Web sites to calculate alternative energy needs/system requirements?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Can you recommend any web sites that would allow me to specifically list my energy needs (item by item) and give me a customized, detailed explanation of my system requirements? I am interested in solar and have only seen somewhat generalized information as to various system loads. Thank you!

Probably your best bet for solar/alternative energy is www.homepower.com, there is also Wind and Sun http://www.windsun.com/ and Jade Mountain http://www.jademountain.com/, all have great info on all aspects of off grid living.

Lynne,

If you get a catalog from Mr. Solar there is a Power Consumption table with most appliances and a Load evaluation form where you can calculate total watt-hours. We did this when we purchased our solar system. It takes a while and it might be a pain to try to do on-line. The catalog is free and it's toll free 1-888-677-6527 or you can email at emi4solar@aol.com

sunwize.com has a form like you are talking about. You will have to hunt through the different depts. to find it. I almost gave up before I found it. It is six pages long so just print it out. You have to know what kind of batteries you want and what kind of panels but it will give you a place to start.

Homepower.com has a wealth of info on solar energy including sizing your system.
