Value of chandelier

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Exchange: A Forum for Antiques and The Arts : One Thread

We have a 5' long crystal chandelier. Starting from the top, there are several vertical rows of crystal beads and a brass band. Then there are 2 rows of candle-type lightbulb holders and another brass band and then lengths of diamond shaped crystals hanging from the candle holders. We have no idea what this is worth. Someone asked us last week to give it to them and today offered us $3,000. It's in good shape, but we do not know the age of it. I would appreciate any advice or information. Thanks! Jan

Hi Jan, you could check the lighting sockets for any markings such as company names, patent numbers or a sticker from the Underwriters laboratories, it will help narrow down the age range. Another thing to consider is that it could be a gas fixture that was converted to electricity at the turn of the last century and much older than it appears.
