Ask questions with preview

greenspun.com : LUSENET : People Photography : One Thread

Is posting questions without preview killing you? Have you given up on ever submitting your images because the chances getting the HTML right is just too slim?

If you can see this post, then it means that my little hack works, and you should be able to post questions in this forum at http://cybaea.com/cgi-bin/post-new.pl?FORUM=People+Photography.

At the moment only new questions are supported: you cannot reply to an existing thread. You have to use HTML, there is no support for plain text entries (you need it for those images anyhow). And it kind of sucks to have to go to a different server, but I obviously can't modify Philip's site. I'll fix the memory of your e-mail address and name soon.

In any case I'm hoping that this little service will soon be obsolete by an upgrade of the software on greenspun.com.

Let me know if this is useful...

Worked perfectly with one hitch. It truncated my subject line. (see "NYC Cops") Very cool though Allan! Thank you for this excellent feature.

I forgot to say: don't use double quotes in your subject, e-mail or name fields. I thought of this after I had shut down my laptop. Sorry - I'll see if I can hack around it tomorrow (make that "today" - it's after midnight and I've been in meetings since 8am. I need a new job).

But thanks for trying it out.

Posting replies coming soon.

Let me know if you find any problems.

I didn't really fix problems with double quotes -- I broke the whole mechanism :-(

I'll have a look at it: for now don't use double quotes in your text. I can feel a hairy perl regex coming up....

I think it works again, with quotes and images and tags and everything. Regexps-R-Us. Let me knwo if you have probs.

The problem with perl is that after a while you don't know what your own code does anymore...
