Comfrey for Chickens

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I read or heard somewhere that comfrey was good for chickens. Does anyone have any experience with this? Or know where to find any info? Thanks! Jean

I keep a few patches of comfrey growing around our place. Every so often, I'll toss several handfuls to the birds. They gobble it up in a trice. They don't have access too often to our yard, (25+ birds running around our not-quite-an-acre homestead??? The neighbors'd love that) so on the weeks when the weeds aren't sufficient, the comfrey does them good. As far as what kind of good it does them, you'll have to look elsewhere for that info. Not sure. Judi

Check out Andy Lee's book on chicken tractors. He's very enthusiastic about comfrey for chickens. Good luck!
