Carved "Monkey Face" table

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Exchange: A Forum for Antiques and The Arts : One Thread

I have an old hand carved table (oak) which is has an oval top with a shelf below. It has curved (slender "S" shaped) legs that the bottom shelf is joined into. It has carved beading around the top. At the top of each leg is a carved monkey face (with mouth open. The legs are not attached like a normal table (2 at each end), they are attached one centred on each end and one centred on the front and the back. It about 30" high and the top measures about 24" x 36". It was all pegged and glued and is in extremely good condition. There are no markings or furniture-maker stamps on this. I have never seen a table like this anywhere. Any info would be appreciated.
