I am looking for an anonymous poem called "The Class Ring"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Poetry : One Thread

I am loking for a poem that I saw in 1988 called "The Class Ring". When I saw it, the author was anonymous, so this is making my search endless. I remember some lines from the poem that went:

Close by the doorway he paused to stand As he took his class ring from her hand All who where watching did not speak As a silent tear ran down his cheek...

If you can help, please let me know.

I am sorry, I am running late answering my emails ... I don't know the answers to your questions, I just remembered reading it once, and found it on the web. If I happen to find out more about it, I will let you know, ok ? ilza

I already sent you this email, but I thought I would post it to the group. Hope that is OK.

Thank you very much!! I have been trying to find this poem forever, how did you find it so easily? Is it in a book that I can buy, and is the author "Anonymous"? Also, what type of poetry is it? I know that it has something to do with an unexpected ending, but I can not remember the type.

Once again Thank you.

Class Ring Close by the doorway he stood to stand, As he took his class ring from her hand All who were watching did not speak, As a silent tear ran down his cheek.

Now his eyes suddenly grew cold, For her hand he'd no longer have to hold. They watched him with a silent air, As he bent down to whisper, "I love you." in her ear.

With his ring on his finger he kissed her goodbye. Knowing she had worn his ring for the very last time; and he started to cry.

Then the door flew open and the wind began to blow, As they carried her casket out into the snow.
