great seed source!

I just wanted to let everyone know about : Jordan Seeds, Inc. 1-651-738-3422 or 6400 Upper Afton Rd. 1-651-739-9578 or Woodbury, MN 55125 fax 1-651-731-7690 They have no internet connection. I have no connection to them other than I have gotten seeds from them for the past 2 years and am very happy with them. The prices are much less than other seeds and the quality has been just as good. They cater mostly to big farms but I called and asked if they would mind if I posted their address and was told to "go for it." Nice people. For example: 1 POUND of Blue Lake FM-1 pole bean seeds are 2.10. 1 POUND of Bodacious (S>E>) sweet corn is 5.20. 1 POUND of Mammoth Melting snow pea seeds is 1.85. They charge 3.00 if the order is under $50.00 but I had no trouble getting a 50 dollar order. Most seeds keep for more than one year so the quantity isn't a problem.

Pinetree Garden Seeds is another great place for excellent, inexpensive seeds. They seem to have a much better selection than many of the higher-priced places, too. They are online - I just don't know the url offhand.

Does Jordan Seeds have a catalog?

-- jean (schiszik@tbcnet.com), March 01, 2000.

Yes, they do but it doesn't have all the colored pictures that we're used to. They just list the varieties , quantity and price. I tried to list the address and phone numbers but the computer took all the info and scrambled it. (Not the computer's fault, I just didn't know it would do that.) The phone numbers are: 1-651-738-3422 or 1-651-739-9578 or fax 1-651-731-7690. You get to talk to an actual person- just ask for a catalog. You can buy 5,000 open pollinated Beefsteak tomato seeds for less than a packet costs elsewhere! That's enough to last awhile and share with friends, too.

I too thank you, the prices sound very reasonable. Another seed source is Seeds Blum, they are at www.seedsblum.com, can't remenber the phone # at this point. They carry unusual, open pollinated seeds and are quite nice and helpful. Plus last time I checked they carry lots of interesting books.

Northern tier gardeners should also know about Fedco Seeds, Waterville, Maine. No web site, but they have the absolute BEST catalogue I've ever seen and the biggest selection of open-pollinated seeds I've found outside the Seed Savers list. It's operated as a cooperative, and prices are definitely on the low side. They also offer separate catalogues for tubers and trees/shrubs. They're good people, too. Pinetree Seeds in Yarmouth, Maine, and of course Johnny's Selected Seeds in Albion, Maine, are also excellent. (Is Maine unusual for having so many really great seed companies?)
