Mpeg-1 SIF COMBO?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I do not want to get the blame for saying this is an alternative to our normal vcd file format. Mr VCD seems bent on attemping to use or suggest the SIF format as an alternative to SVCD.

I mentioned this spec in a reply that indicated this was an acceptable DVD format in the DVD spec, in no way am I suggesting this as an alternative to anything.

It employs an uprated video data rate and my comment was that the DVD player must do some extra processing to get dvd quality out of a constant bit rate file at such a low data rate. If that is the case my question was "Why has it not been used as the basis of what some may call a mini-DVD" on a CD-r or CD-rw. Why re-invent the wheel?

Those using high data rate VCD's have quite an advantage and maybe, SVCD, if fully supported would be a good alternative as a Mini-DVD.
