Topics for research papersgreenspun.com : LUSENET : CSUF CpSc 566 : One Thread |
I was wondering if anyone knows of any good topics to use for the research paper, or where we may find some topics. Any ideas would be great.

How about these? (Some of these are duplicates of Jeff's list)
- adaptive space subdivision (octrees, BSP trees)
- animation (motion dynamics, inverse kinematics, key-frame, parametric)
- bump mapping
- constructive solid geometry
- orthographic reconstruction
- particle system modeling
- plant generator functions and growth models
- atmospheric effects and lens flare
- shape deformations
- motion capture
- metaballs
- stochastic models
- ray casting
- surfaces of revolution
- scientific visualization
- blobby objects
- shape grammars
- procedural texturing
- distributed ray tracing
- volume rendering
- wavelets

I just thought of two more places to go looking for topics: the USENET newsgroup comp.graphics.algorithms (and its associated FAQ), and the Graphics Gems book series.

How about another list of potential topics? There's a home page for an Advanced Graphics course over at Worcester Polytechnic that has topics, resources, and even summaries of other students' presentations.

Here is a list of topics I've come across so far - I'd really appreciate any input as to which of these would be good candidates for doing research on (ie. interesting, non-trivial, but not a life's work either), and if I don't get answers here I'll probably ask in class (who am I kidding, I'll ask in class regardless). If I've listing things more than once under different names which are really the same thing let me know.ray_casting/radiosity particle_systems - fire? texture_mapping/multitexturing water alpha_blending light_maps/dynamic_lighting 3D_clipping terrain/curved_surface_rendering/landscapes transparency 3D_shading rendering_convex_n-gons depth_maps? bump_mapping character_animation/modeling
these are just a few things which seemed interesting, but I don't know if they're all appropriate paper topics - any other topics would be appreciated
