I once memorized and love this poem. Now I can't find it anywhere. Some of the final lines are similar to the following.

"He traveled down the dreary days, his spirit grew robust,

He knew no more that he was poor, nor that that his frame was dust.

-------------------------And this bequest of wings, was just a book, what liberty a loosened spirit brings.

ilza, thank you so much. I knew I had this in one of my Dickinson books. But I'd been searching in the wrong one. After you gave me the title, I found it. I'm a great fan of Dickinson. Thanks again.

the title is A book - A BOOK

He ate and drank the precious words,

His spirit grew robust;

He knew no more that he was poor,

Nor that his frame was dust.

He danced along the dingy days,

And this bequest of wings

Was but a book. What liberty

A loosened spirit brings!
