Child Porn Collection Overloads State Computer Worker Busted After System Check Finds Obscene Trove

ATLANTA (APBnews.com) -- A state employee's collection of child pornography on his office computer was discovered when it grew so large the system became overloaded, authorities said.
Arthur Garey, 51, of Decatur, an employee in the state's merit system office, is charged with sexual exploitation of children. He was arrested Wednesday by agents of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and freed on $10,000 bail.
Investigators say that Garey's computer collection of pornography was taking up so much space on his computer that the system was having problems allocating memory to office work.
"That's how this problem was discovered," John Bankhead, spokesman for the GBI, told APBnews.com. "Quite frankly, the images had taken up most of the space he was allocated."
Bankhead said the GBI was called in last spring after some of the images were discovered while the system was being checked for problems.
"They felt there might be some criminal violations," Bankhead said.
So far Garey faces only one charge, but the investigation is continuing.
"We're working with the attorney general's office on it. The attorney general had indicated going ahead and taking this warrant for this charge, right now," Bankhead told APBnews.com.
Garey is tentatively set for a court appearance next week.
