Value of Burmese Tapestry

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Exchange: A Forum for Antiques and The Arts : One Thread

When in Burma in 1985 I traded for a Burmese tapestry. The person I "bought" it from said it was more than 100 years old. It is approximately 4' x 6.5' with intricate beading (looks to be brass, copper, aluminum, siler pounded sequins -- and glass beads)on a velevet fabric background. The figures are "padded" add stick up from the tapestry. It is apparantly a bridal scene with a white elephant. The entire tapestry has been sewn on a bright orange (old) fabric. When I had it appraised 12 years ago a local dealer told me it was probably worth around $800. I am curious if anyone know more about Burmese tapestries and could help me figure a value. Thanks!
