It's kinda related, so I'll put this here. Did anyone else catch the daily "human interest" story on yesterday's CBS Ths Morning with Bryant Gumball-brains concerning the guy in Florida and his Bible- code analysis? CBS tried real hard to make the guy out as a real kook, with Bryant Gumball-brains even editorializing "People shouldn't read more into their Bible study than is there".

The jist of the story is that a retired military officer, a cryptographer by training, did a little anlysis of the Bible for code structure and became convinced that he reads a warning of an extreme economic depression by next summer. (Hmmm, sound like something we've heard?)

He is preparing as seriously as any of use is preparing for Y2K and has an interesting comment. "Canned food will be like gold and people will be trying to take it fom you." He has his shotgun ready to defend his supplies.

Bryant Gumball-brains yucked it up with the reporter and both had some pretty smarmy comments about the guy's behavior. "It deviates from the approved norm! We must deride it so the rest of the herd doesn't attempt to follow!"

I was just struck at how, even more than the network news shills are down on Y2Kers, they were really down on someone who would *decipher a warning from the Bible*. Maybe they're afraid that some people who wouldn't believe a warning from human sources about a coming crisis might believe a very similar warning if the thought it came from devine sources.

Makes one wonder.

You don't need to read Bible code mumbo jumbo to know that we are headed for a depression. All you have to do is count the number of embedded systems in the oil industry.
