Carts/supplies

At the local Ace store (that has everything)--has kept 15-20 water barrells in stock all through the year--doesn't let the stock deplete--today only 2 there and folk's carts had 5 gal jugs, gas cans plus other fairly obvious preparedness stuff--at the local bank a gentlman getting his money in SMALL bills and coins---all this juxtapositioned against the usual hysterical Christmas buying. ALSO got royally ribbed by 2nd son and told him that on March 12, if it didn't look like y2k was a big deal I would have a party and we would all wear fancy decorated tin hats--and toast his crazy parent with bean and lentil soup----please God may it be so.

I have promised to buy my entire work group 15+- pizzas and sodas on the first Friday in March if things have not fallen apart.

I gave one co-worker 3 to 1 odds that she would not be driving her new car to work here by April 1st. She has a new big Ford Explorer. Better to have a junker with food in the house. I don't think she can commute at $3.00 Gas

I am offering even money that the DOW goes below 7500 before April 15.

Do you know how much those water barrels were selling for?

The ones with spigots near the bottom were 45 gal and going for 26.50 I think. (Pickle barrels to begin with--lots of clorox and sunshine cleaned em up). There were also ones without the spigot and I think they were going for around $20 or so. There were smaller ones--maybe about 15 gal and were blue---I'm not sure what they were going for. The 5 gal clear plastic jugs have gone up about $2.00 since spring---they were 5.59 and now are up to 7.59--they do periodically go on sale for 6.59. I've been using these as my unofficial barometer of y2k "herd movement".
