"A government committee, established on Nov. 10, is preparing to launch a sampling survey wherein officials would visit about 200 to 300 factories to determine Y2K readiness. If any factory is found to be at risk, they would be ordered to close down."

I can't even visualize this actually happening.

If our gov't were to follow thru with their earlier comittment to supend deficent power plants, financial institutions, without exceptions, this would go a long way to convince the American public we could pass through a BITER without undue alarm. 100% ready with exceptions does not set well with my feeling of security. Maybe some third world countries can show us the way.
