OT-Dealing with pdf files

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Over the past days/weeks/months several people have complained about government documents being in pdf format and difficulty in dealing with them.

Adobe Acrobat, the viewer for pdf files, is, in my experience at least, a very well behaved application. It is available at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html Link

Actually it is quite simple to copy and paste text from pdf documents. On the pdf viewer tool bar, next to the magnifying glass, is a button labelled "T". This a text selection tool. Left click on the button to activate, then left click and drag the cursor over desired text. Now RIGHT CLICK (control-C will not work) and select "copy". The text is now on the clip board and can be pasted wherever desired with the normal control-V.

Happy clicking.

I hate the PDF format. Did you ever try to cut anything out of one of those docs and paste it elsewhere?

Thanks Joe. It has been frustrating for me. This is now a bookmark.

I can't agree. I suscribe to 10 or so scientific journals; all on the web. They come as pdf files. I can download and print for my use or onto overheads or slides for presentation. Best thing anyone has ever done. They are also easily convertible into Word, Word Perfect, Powerpoint, etc. I just guess that our needs are different.

Best wishes,,,,
