... Handgun?

Taken from a county article today,

"Delaware County deputies are asking for help in finding two people who allegedly impersonated police officers.

On Nov. 20, a complainant reported that while traveling on state Route 28 in the town of Meredith, two subjects in a rusty, black GMC Jimmy with white rims motioned for him to pull over, deputies said.

The victim said that the suspecdts got out of their vehicle and said, "This is a road check." The victim saw a badge with an eagle on top, but thought it didn't look like a police officer's, deputies said. He then asked for identification and one of the suspects patted his coat pocket and said, "I have my ID right here."

Deputies said the complainant then showed the suspects his legally registered handgun and the suspects fled. No further information on the vehicle or occupants is available.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office cautions if motorists are doubtful about the identiy of a police officer in a nonpatrol, unmarked car attempting to stop them, they should try to pull over in a safe, well-lit business or residential area."

Yeah, right -- drive to a well-lit area. And if it happens to be a "legitimate" pig -- you'll STILL get your ass shot up because you are not pulling over right away -- "evading arrest."

Not necessarily, if a person has reason to fear what appears to be a police officer they should turn on emergency blinkers, slow to very slow pace and proceed to safe area, or have your piece ready.

A number of "Blue Light Bandit" incidents have occurred in Durham. Women have been molested in two or three of them. Those having suspicions about a police stop have been instructed by authorities to do exactly as BigDog and Goldbug suggest.

"have your piece ready..."

Woe betide ye, and yon constable espieth your piece! Yea certain it be, Your ass will verily be shotteth off.

Yet another reason why ALL cops should be in CLEARLY MARKED patrol cars (I'd vote for a hideous purple, green, and yellow scheme myself) and wear uniforms. It is easy to get a set of fake lights and a "chicken inspector" badge and play highway patrol.
