I was deleted for no good reason, could somebody please explain why?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Folks,

Something is going wrong here, I put up an inoffensive post regarding the difficulty of following threads where responses had been deleted but not the responses to the responses, making the threads difficult to follow and it was deleted. Fortunately, a response which it got before it was deleted, which suggested that it might be, prompted me to save it so I will repeat it hereunder so perhaps somebody might explain to me what was wrong with it.

My post did not contain foul language, I even bowdlerized the one mild swear word.

A few points first:

I am a preparer without being a true doomer, I'm at about 3 months and am happy at that. I am enough of a doomer and preparation advocate that in my workmates' eyes that I am (or was 'til I shut up) an object of amusement.

My email address is real. My message was posted from work so it does not match the domain from which the post was sourced (I don't want private messages at work). I've checked my mail on my laptop and nobody has emailed me re the deletion, it just disappeared.

I have never posted a trollish message, I post very seldom, a few on solar cooking and the odd one on technical mainframe issues.

I don't like trolls either, although I don't include folk such as Flint & Decker, who IMHO are just attempting some valuable balance, in that category.

I have only once been to the debunking forum, in response to a comment on this site, I have never posted there or even been back.

Ed Yourdon is something of a hero to me, I have done every one of the Structured Programming/Design Workshops available in Australia. I hold Ed personally responsible for revolutionising the way we develop large complex systems. (I was a bit unhappy with "The decline of the American Programmer" however. I actually quite like COBOL!)

Okay, my original post, with replies, follows, what was wrong with it?

Start of Orig Post ------------------------------------------------- Folks, I didn't really want to buy into this but I find the situation arising on many threads now, in which posts by trolls have been deleted but not the responses to those posts *really* irritating. I hate reading responses to comments that I haven't had the opportunity to read for myself. It's like a book with random pages missing! Would it be too difficult to delete responses to trolling as well as the original? After all, the responses are simply feeding the trolls and are thus also worthy of deletion.

The alternative would be to stop the deleting, I never find it hard to step over dogs#!t in the street or on the net!

Answers Careful Ron, any more of that talk and you're going to get "trashed" for being a troll. Sad thing is that I got banned for talking the same way. Only instead of addressing the points I was making they decided to "delete me on sight" because it was just "easier that way". So I got mad, and then they said "how childish" I was being. So I got even and then they said how "rude" it was. And I imagine that this will also get "censored" in short order.

I hope all the lurkers and newcomers are seeing exactly what is going on here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I guess I should have posted an example! One would be the thread entitled "NBC Y2K Movie: perfect strawman" in which the first reply, from KoS, appears to be actually agreeing with Y2K Pro but Pro's post is not there, I'm assuming it was deleted, unless Dit is one of Pro's pseudonyms! Now, His Majesty is not exactly a renowned admirer of trolls (unless female and mud bespattered, one assumes) but Pro has said something that he agrees with, what could it be?

BTW, for any other Aussies here, we aren't going to get Y2K The Movie on free to air TV, it's going straight to Video. RonD

That's a great start, Hawk. The sysops here are doing a fabulous job of cleaning up the garbage here.

Folks,

I believe that my original post was probably deleted in error. This thread, which contains the deleted text, has been allowed to remain although I have watched posts by CensorshipSucks and others appear and disappear, therefore it has obviously between inspected and "passed" by the SYSOP's. It is undoubtedly being "censored" however, but such censorship appears to be within the new terms of the forum which appear to allow the posts or responses of known disruptors to be removed.

I have also now received email from Chuck, which was civil and friendly although not tremendously useful as an explanation for the original deletion.

Hawk: Your comments are not useful or productive. RonD
