Zoobie,

I noticed in another thread that you said your "father-in-law is in disaster recovery at Cuna Mutual in Madison, Wisconsin.

What does he have to say about the Y2K problem? Is he stockpiling? What are Cuna Mutual's contingency plans? Please Advise.

He's reasonably upbeat(for a career paranoid)about cuna mutual's systems. He's much less upbeat about the honesty in reporting and upward communication in the management chain of command in large for profit corporations, their managers tend to expect to be told what they want to hear.He himself does not like to talk about cross cascading loan defaults,he admits that everyones final outcome is unknown and he scoffs at bank "y2k ready" stickers and the president's reasurances that all is fixed.Cuna Mutual has a branch in New Zealand so madison will have advanced warning.Cuna Mutual has shiny new generators that'll use 2000 gallons a day to power the complex which will be available to employees and employee families as a shelter should local grid collapse, like that'll last long.My father in law expects severe just in time delivery disruptions and problems with oil distribution. We differ mostly in social paradigms.I'm very cynical about the selfish and often violent aspect of people in crises situations.Whereas my dad-in-law has many years experience with big business fixing isolated official problems .Whereas he is very much a suit and tie type I'm much more at home with the dharma bum somewhat seedy type.He truly thinks that unprepaired cold hungry americans will somehow find esprit de corps and nationaly pull together regardless of the level of disruption. The maniac actualy had local news come into his basement showing the world his food and water preps.I couldn't believe it.I've told him that I have extra firearms for when he changes his mind about yuppies in times of crises. But he just laughs that off.I am after all,a nutbag.

Thanks for the update. I'm wondering how the other banks and CU's will hold out. I think the UW-Madison campus has a separate power and heat system and may be OK for a little while. We'll see.

Making tons of preps just in case.

Madison Maiden
