Y2k Movie Review from one Polly's perpective

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I am convinced, after viewing the movie, that it was authored by polly trolls. There is simply no other explanation. It accomplished all of my stated goals in debunking the catastrophic Y2k meme, and a few that I considered "wish list" items.

To those who did not get a chance to view the movie, I sincerely hope you get an opportunity soon.

Now that's first-rate entertainment!

Patient Regards,
Andy Ray

It had so many inaccuracies it will be easy to discount it to any one who becomes concerned by it.

First of all, even if the digital displays go out in an aircraft cockpit, the old pre-computer instruments still work.Altimiter, HSI,ADI etc, a pilot would know what altitude he was at and see the horizen and his attitude.

Next, we do not have a nuclear power plant in Washington, and all of the Hospitals have checked their equipment.

Also they made it look like no one in any of the places that had problems had even thought about Y2K before a few days before the new year.

I thouhgt it quite interesting how the movie focused on the nuclear meltdown, thus taking us away from the other problems happening. At the end we all throw up our hand and say "yippee." Typical Hollywood drivel.

Ken Olin is the worst actor I have ever seen. How did that guy ever make it in the business? He sounds like he has two cucumbers shoved up his nostrils.

Cherri,

Agreed. I didn't say it was accurate, though (how could anyone make an accurate film about a catastrophic Y2k?). I think it was very entertaining.

Perhaps Charisma magazine could start offering a copy of this videotape in their Y2K information pack. I'm sure its as accurate and realistic as the other stuff in their.

"and all of the Hospitals have checked their equipment. "

Silly boy.

Who could possibly care what either Andy Ray or Cherri thinks about Y2K or anything else?

-- cody (cody@y2ksurvive.com), November 22, 1999.

Yeah, utter yawnsville. Designed as a prozac shot in the head: so excruciatingly stupid as to be an emblem of our age. Sleep on, fair-haired City of Man.

Nah, couldn't have been written by a polly troll. There was no mention of Malevolent Mutant Monster Memes marching into Memphis shortly after midnight. QED.

The gregarious and friendly way the new yorkers reacted in the blackout was particularly banal and unbelievable. In reality, mohawked ex-yuppies will steal your food and rape you analy to punish you for not trying harder to convince them when you had the chance that y2k was not paranoid hype.

Cherri,

Would you have us believe that nothing bad is going to happen anywhere?

Sincerely,

Andy Ray and Cherri, why are you two wasting time at this forum? All's well (at least according to you), so why are you hanging around here sharing your polly views with us? You guys are so phony it's disgusting. You two have an agenda, right? And I'll bet that you have prepared, in spite of what you say. You aren't that stupid.
