OT--Why is Y2K + God------> ridiculed from Creatures that Create?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

In frequenting the forum one witnesses degrees of spirituality and Religous beliefs. Normally when someone makes analogies or comments on biblical or religous symbolism and beliefs, usually long threads develop due to the argumentative nature of the subject.

I find it interesting that if one were to take a poll, most people would submit to an acceptance of an infinite intelligence or first cause involved in either creation or evolution.

If we as a species have evolved to a point of technical destruction (genetic engineering,nano-technology), with our limited capabilities to see the future, who are we to mock a potential infinite intelligence decree to start all over again and who of us knows how many times in the last couple billion years this exact scenario may have played out before.

A quote from an 19th century philospher may capture our society best.

"The species that can perpetuate itself above all others will eventually die in its own waste"

In the last couple billion years. If you are talking about Earth, and you were a single celled organism at that time, yes. It seems to me that the nano-tech and genetic engineering stuff is a lot of net hype. Not that there aren't real questions, but the real questions are not often asked.

Best wishes

Earth evolved to the point of feeding 4 billion homo sapiens beyond its natural maximum capacity of 2 billion. That is hardly proof of your "technological destruction in which earth life is wiped out by some vague mythological 'intelligence'."

Points to ponder:

Kenneth Hovind, a GI, speaks out on such topics and more.
