I'm not leaving yet

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I'm sad to see so many regulars who have had much to contribute to this forum leaving. I'm going to stay until the last of the Y2K issue is buried in the ground. There is an encyclopedia of data regarding Y2K within this forum. It takes some hunting to find it and during those excursions you are apt to run across trolls, pollys, idiots, morons, and curious by-standers that post nonsence. My policy has been to ignore and to not post a reply. As many of you have said on this forum..."Please don't feed the trolls."

Since this is an intellectual debate between doomers and pollys, then, as a "Forum Coach", I would offer that quitters never win and winners never quit.

Uncle Bob,

Good morning! Thanks for the excellent advice. GO TEAM! Let's beat this thing...

At critical mass I think the forum should gut its archives. There isn't any purpose served for hungry and desperate people to read about the deliberate Fed spin and such. It'll only serve to further upset them.

I would think there would be wisdom in at least starting the forum fresh at a critical time.

Do you really want people who may be dying to read the long lists of details in peoples' preparations? Isn't it better for them to think only two crazy militia members, that no one can name, are sitting out there with piles of food?

Do you want them pulling up archives and reading Ed Yourdons', "Ah, the wind mills are topping off the batteries and I have just had my office wood stove installed?"

Do you want to risk these frantically depserate people to be out searching for "oasis's?" Or black markets seeking wanted items? How about the guy in the normal neighborhood who just posted, "And if the power goes off my generator automatically starts up."

It's something to think about. It may not matter but there could be reason for concern.

Please do not delete the archives! What is left of civilization (as it were) and uncommon sense resides in them. Those of us who were still awake at rollover must leave something for the landing aliens.

If it's that bad the electricity will be out and people won't be reading anything on the Internet.

Besides, many preppers have stocked self-defense. And, if mayhem breaks out in the initial black-out, many of those looter perps will end up eliminating each other.

Perfectly fine to take Y2K breathers and chill somewhere more calming :-) When news breaks or blood pressure stabilizes, back to the Forum for another peek into the Looming Reality.

There is no reason to delete the archives. I'm sure there are many like me who save the entire website so it can be read offline.

I feel like a Y2K Cheerleader. Now if we can just get our star quarterback Mikey Adams to stop throwing a pity party for himself, and get back to making up stories about the great government y2k cover-up we might stand a fighting chance. Go Y2K! Rah, Rah, Rah! Sock 'Em in the JAW! Give me a Y! Give me a 2! Give me a K!

(normally@ease.notnow),

Why would anyone want to delete the archives?

Oh, right... a certain group of disruptors would.

At any rate for those who choose to be Y2K-free for the holidays... that's great. Bet they'll lurk and be back for the rollover though.

;-D

Paula,

Re: There may be another reason than the one you stated. In a few recent posts some replies were made that caught my attention for the fact that other posters seemed to miss completely what they said.

A lady writing of how her house was "marked" with a blue decal (or flag?)-she said she removed the decal, but found some day(s) later it had been replaced.

One reply on this post (part of name was "CDN") said, "I work for the government"... and I check out this board. Other government employees do too (not verbatim). "Be careful what you say here" - that is a quote from this poster.

Another that replied directly to this lady mentioned above (by the name of "Swat@cop.com" i think)- He wrote (regarding the marking of her home) "I'm sorry to hear that". Then he said, "I am glad I am a cop."

Now please... take a moment, and just repeat that to yourself a few times... "I'm glad I am a cop" "I'm glad I am a cop"

I thought it might be worth a warning to the posters here AGAIN to "be careful", but coming from someone who has earned some respect on this board-not me.

Sorry i trolled you that time.

Signed, red-faced reply

ps: Just for fun- Got a letter from my insurance agent dated Nov. 15th. Dear ___, "Thanks for........ and to advise you of my retirement effective 12-31-99." Blah Co. has appointed ___ to replace..... will continue to provide....

Delete the archives? Preposterous - There is a wealth of humor AND information located there.
