I just bought 2 down comforters. Last year I gave long johns. I think I'll give sterno stoves this year too. I wish I could afford wood stoves.

A little more expensive, perhaps, but I just bought some water filters (Doulton -- the kind used in the expensive Berkefield filter sets) with little hose attachments for immediate family -- $37 each. You can use these with muddy water to make water cleaner than that which comes out of your tap.
