Y2K THE MOVIE - Cooool new commercial!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

It starts out with the warm fuzzy speech that Clinton gave a few days ago, then in big bold letters...

WHAT IF

HE'S WRONG?

Then, the countdown 10, 9, 8, 7, ....

Hopefully it will get some people up off the couch!

Even though I don't want to see panic at this point, I LOVE THAT!!!

Did you see it yet? It's very suspenseful and dramatic. Yeah, it was pretty ballsy on the part of NBC, hope the gubmint doesn't make them yank it. But like we've always said, it would be better to have panic now while the stores are still open, than to wait and take a chance that they won't be able to get anything at all.

I think I just fell down the rabbit hole again...

Deb, did you fall down laughing or what? :-)

If they could just have placed five seconds of: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman..." after the Y2K comments and before the "What if he's wrong..." ;-)

oh my goodness. walmart will be packed that night with lead ins like that???? or maybe the herd will go, "honey, do you think that could be true?" then go back to redoing their house or waxing the car or dawdling over their portfolios. BUT WHAT MAKES THIS MEMORABLE IS THAT AFTER PLACING A THOUGHT LIKE THAT IN PEOPLE'S MIND--THEY WILL KNOW WHO DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT Y2K AND CHOSE NOT TO TELL THEM THE TRUTH.

Why not "There is no cause for panic" "I did not have sexual relations with that woman"?

I saw the ad last night, and spent 10 minutes trying to get my jaw off the floor. They didn't need to refer to Ms. lewinski - JQP has not forgotten.

A masterly use of subtextual communication. But with all the normal background paranoia about, is it really necessary to feed it? To me, it borders on irresponsible.

Remember, that ad did not appear because NBC wants to encourage responsible preparedness. It's there because it's Sweeps Week and sensationalism sells.

Just wait until the other networks try this trick. If the movie is a hit, we are in the s***. (hey, I sound like Johnny Cochran!)

Here's something even more surreal than the movie:

"[Y2K] will not even slow the US economy" - Shithead Shapario, deputy commerce secretary, 16 Nov 1999
