What was the reason Mark Spitz left the 1972 Olympics before they were finished? Also, did he swim the butterfly in the 400 medley relay for that Olympic event?

Not sure if he swam the fly or not, but do remember the reason he left. After the terrorist attack on the jewish athletes he was rushed out of the country by american officals. They were afraid since he was jewish that he might be the target of an attack.
