Into The Forest; a MUST read.

I've seen this book, Into the Forest, by Jean Hegland recommended before in various threads. I finally got hold of a copy and read it. This is a must-read IMO. It's scary in that I can all too well envision such a scenario- especially not just with y2k but all of the other factors that could erupt at this time- various wars, terrorist acts, etc. This book definitely is one to read-

And for those who have read it- what do you think of it and its relation to potential reality if we let it get that far?

farmer,

I read it back in march or so - blew my mind. Really helped me visualize how stuff could break down. Definitely stepped up on my preps after reading it.

I've read it. I thought it could be a realistic portrayal of how things could break down under certain circumstances. But then I got to the part about the sisters having a Lesbian moment, and then never mentioning again, - and I remembered that it is a NOVEL! Still, it was a very interesting portrayal of how you can brain wash a kid into being afraid of the world. The Mother always said, "don't put anything in your mouth when you are in the woods - you know the forest is full of poisonous plants." So the poor orphans are left to figure out what's OK to eat and what is not......

Berry Picker- that's funny that you should concentrate on that small segment of the book. I was much more taken aback by the societal breakdown issues as well as the realization of how precious a sliver os soap became versus how wasteful they once were. Would hate to have people on the forum avoid this book now preceiving it as a lesbo sex book or something like that (no offense meant if you're into that stuff).

Just started listening to the audio book. The reader is great, and they can really make or break an audio.

I'm only on the 2nd cassette (of 12), don't know what chapter, but it's just past Christmas, the girls have begun their inventory of the household... I'm hooked.

BTW, I get the audio books from the library, and listen while I work 'round house or work out. Great incentive to get down to it, since it's the only time I listen. If I want to find out what happens next, I have to get back to work :).

Hate to admit I haven't read this. All my neighbors have read it and rave about it. All except for one that is, Jean....
