*Eugene, OR property tax division mailed out tax forms 1 day late. The forms contained no breakdown of costs as in previous (pre 99) mailings. School, sewer, police, that agency this agency etc.. TV news w/film report of 11/15/99 (including LONG lines of people in backround) has head of department stating it is "a problem with our printer". I was there! The accountant I spoke to told me they "have been trying to integrate a new computer system" and it has been insane (I offered the word insane to him/her and they took it).

*Eugene Emergency powers ordinance of July 99 (see; Gary Norths site or Eugene Register Guard)gives mayor legal authority to take any private property "they need/want" AND power over food, fuel, curfew, assembly (of people). I can find no more public info except for official minutes taken when county commissioners held meeting for public input. *Mayor Jim Torreys words (quote from news) "It gives ME THE POWER to......." *Mayor Jim recently made known his desire to stay on as Mayor, rather than run for the state legislature (I wonder why?....NOT!) *Eugene city government offices will move in with the FEDS summer 00. *TV news w/film describes FED building as "high tech" bunker style building able to withstand terrorists attacks. *Oregon coastal city gets new "state of the art-first of ITS KIND emergency notification system. The system is able to automatically call "thousands" of residents to warn of "evacuation" in case of "tsunami, slides, criminals firing guns hostage situation (yeah, thats right).

Candidacy of (I'm so technically aware I nearly invented the internet)Agore - In light of y2k and whats coming...... it just makes no sense to me that he is running for office. It seems like when they taped a piece of paper on your back that said "kick me/hit me". ( No offense Paula.... really) but can someone explain this to me?

Any more the trouble is that the folks that WANT to be President aren't the sort of folks who should be President. Truman didn't, and he did a good job. Johnson did, and he didn't.

I think it was Mark Twain...or maybe Will Rogers....who said something like: "If a man wants to be President, that should be reason enough to deny him the job."

Now I remember...it was Will Rogers who told an audience in Paris that, "Back in the States, we've got the best politicians that money can buy."
