Chase Manhattan's chairman to retire Jan. 1, Harrison promoted

------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW YORK (AP) - Chase Manhattan Bank's chairman, Walter V. Shipley, will retire Jan. 1, passing the baton to William B. Harrison Jr., currently the chief executive officer of the nation's third largest bank.

Shipley is leaving 11 months before he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 65, Chase said Tuesday. Shipley, who has worked in the banking industry for 43 years, named Harrison, 55, as his heir in March.

Shipley became chairman in March 1996 following the merger between Chase Manhattan and Chemical Bank. Under Shipley, Chase Manhattan's stock has risen 135 percent, compared with a 116 percent gain in the Standard & Poor's 500 index.

On Tuesday, shares of the New York-based Chase Manhattan Corp. were up $3.43 3/4 to $86 on the New York Stock Exchange.

Wonder if he's going to spend his retirement looking for that missing 40 billion dollars?

Of course this has nothing to do with:

Thoughts From Cory Hamaski..... (Or How Did Chase Misplace $40,000,000,000.00 ???)........

... a billion here, a billion there... pretty soon you start to think about retiring.

What a great put I see coming up in the future....

If Chase is toast then everyone else is ok..right? Huh, pollies, right? 90% will make it...what if the 10% that don't are 3 of the top moneycenter banks? Huh, pollies, are you out there?
I just play in this forum now to see the moronic posts from the pollies. Less than 60 days to zero hour and these idiots keep the line of Pravda propoganda loud and proud. Oh, and by the way, 9.5 is conservative. I really do think we are teetering as this information is leaking out in dribs and drabs. And from what I'm hearing, it is time to get scared, very, very scared. But of course if you're a polly, you don't have to listen to me; and Bubba didn't do that on the dress either...

Have a nice day,
