Today I went to Burger King for dinner, but the women at the counter told me they were "out of burgers" (!!!)

John,

That's strange. My son went to a BK here in Birmingham a few days ago and they were also out of hamburgers. Thay may be having nationwide problems with JIT inventory management. How can BurgerKing run out of burgers?

"Out of burgers" probably means out of buns which is not uncommon if their truck was late or demand miscalculated. The restaurant then has to send an employee to another like itself begging buns.

Sound like lame management to me. Labor market's kinda tight and they're probably working a skeleton crew...inventory management suffers.

BK's POKEMON shortage is far more volatile and dangerous!

Beef is getting in short supply because of many restaurants and wholesalers stocking up for expected high holiday demand (better get that sirloin now!). I'm not sure why that would affect the supply of BK quality hamburger but it has drastically raised the price of beef in the supermarkets.

Our Safeway is having a sale on beef. Reg. burger is .99 per pound.

Listened to a speech by Bruce Berben of the California Beef Council last weekend. He said people were stocking up on meat for the millennium and because of the new protein diets. It was causing a big surge in beef sales. There was also a report released on a new study that proved that a lean beef diet was comparable to chicken and fish in effects on cholestrol.
