Diane - MVI has it right - let's go back to the previous TB2K incarnation :)

This batching process is screwing things up left right and centre. Shades of things to come :)

Andy,

It's not our choice... it's Phil Greenspun's Forum software.

When I make a post now, I go to another thread and read or post then come back to the original after a minute to check what I posted earlier. We don't have to get caught in the nedd fo "instant gratification."

The traffic here, I suspect, is pushing the original design of the software, so we need to "lighten up" and... please adjust your mindset... and what you think you know... or about how something "used" to be.

(Good Y2K training).

For my part, I'm grateful that it's working! Sort'a.

;-D

(And I will pass along MoVe Immediate's comments to Phil).

I think the new system is better for us lurkers and semi-lurkers who probably outnumber the active posters by a lot. I know it's harder for you to carry on a "real time" conversation with the new system but, at this point in the end game, I think that might be outweighed by the better availability of the posted information. Many of us can only read the forum once or twice a day so the messages have pretty much decided to stay put by the time we get there.

I agree with you, but
I am sure having a hard time getting my messages to stay put.

Look, it sounds to me that the bottom line is that unless Phil is willing to cough up big bucks to "beef up" the servers to handle a huge wave of traffic that is coming (like after the Y2K disaster movie to be shown on TV on Nov 21?), which will probably subside to a trickle after early January (assuming that there is anything left to trickle on), it just does not make sense to go back to "server busy" for hours, or get blown out of a thread entirely due to the traffic load.

One of the BEST aspects of this forum is that it is a great medium on which to get the latest Y2K news flashes. This is going to be more important than ever as we approach 2000. Insisting that we go back to the previous "incarnation" just so you can see the latest and greatest opinion from the peanut gallery on the news IS JUST NOT WORTH IT!! Especially if it takes 3 hours to do so!!!!

I don't like it any better than anyone else. (Gawd, how many times have I asked myself, "I could have SWORN I asked her if she liked to mudwrestle....") But any reasonable cost/benefit approach, especially in view of the traffic increase that we are bound to get, sez that the current state is acceptable. (So, ladies, if I ask you more than once, please be understanding.)

King,

At this late date and after reading such a wise post done by your highness, I feel compelled to share something with you!

To get Ying to mud wrestle with you--you must discipline your yang energy!

Ying is totally turned on by Controlled Yang (TOTALLY). but unfortunately ying is repelled by an overtly undisciplined yang energy.

So you"ve got some work to do----!! Sire!!

Signed, Wise counsel

KOS, I see your point BUT... as a proud member of the peanut gallery I miss being able to post and tell y2k pro to f*** off in realtime :)

Also I have a T1 line so don't usually get server busy problems (hint, there are "ways" around this :).... )...

Oh well.

*Sigh* :o)
