PLEASE REMAIN SEATED!

Phew - I've just finished reading through all those answers above this one. Seems to be working fine ;-P

-- Y2KGardener (gardens@bigisland.net), November 06, 1999.

They are NOT disappearing! (Unless it IS a troll/or icky post).

It's just a delay factor before the threads show now. Also the reload isn't instantaneous.

Patience... ya give... to get. At least the "server busy" signal is much less.

Diane

I've seen it too. Posts disappear for a while, then suddenly reappear a bit later.

Weird.

Even things I didn't post, but only thought, appear!

-- Mara (MaraWayne@aol.com), November 06, 1999.

Mara, it knows you so well now it's reading your mind ;-)

Thank you forum maintainers for the lack of the infamous "Server too Busy"..

What ever you are doing works for me.. Thanks

HAVE WE GOT A HACKER, HEAVY HANDED CENSOR, Y2K PROBLEMS OR WHAT?

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), November 07, 1999.

LOL!! This is wacko!

I'm beginning to wonder if we are all guinea pigs in a Y2K psychological experiment by MIT to see how long it takes people to go insane due to malfunctioning computers.

I had one of my responses not posted yesterday afternoon...(Saturday). When I found my response on my BACK button, I reposted it...and got a message I've not seen in 18 months here telling me there was a problem that I was posting something with identical subject line and body content. Checked the thread again, and my post from an hour before still had not appeared. Haven't checked it yet, but will.

We are not nuts. Well, maybe some of us. :-)

-- Donna (moment@pacbell.net), November 07, 1999.

Okay...I had to reload specific thread to get my above response to appear....tried that yesterday and it did not work....

"Doctor give him something for his cough."

"okay, here's a quarter."

"That's not much."

"Not much of a cough."

-- Donna (moment@pacbell.net), November 07, 1999.

Diane,

Portions of some threads are disappearing temporarily. My post on the fire alarm was affected last night. The thread was visible from both the "New Questions" and "Recent Answers" pages; however, when you clicked on the thread from either page the replies (Answers) were not there. This was true even though the Recent Answers page showed multiple "New Replies" existed.

It appears as though the end-of-file marker or key-break is not being recognized on occasion for some threads. The greenspun folks do have a problem with their fix and it is related to way they are queing posts to threads prior to updating them or the program(s) which access them have errors related to positioning.

I checked my yesterday response (particularly saddening in its disappearance 'cos it was Macbeth's Tomorrow soliloquy). It is there....I'm no software genius, but something is definitely different beginning yesterday sometime with time and posts.

"Doctor, give him something for his cough." ;-)

-- Donna (moment@pacbell.net), November 07, 1999.

Diane,

I failed to mention that the replies (Answers) WERE previously there. Then they weren't. The thread which I referred to seems to be back to normal this morning. Somebody, needs to look into it.

They (greenspun) in an attempt to keep up with the increased activity, are probably batching or queing multiple "New Answer" transactions and then updating the thread, rather than doing them on a single transactions-by-transaction basis as before. Again, there IS a problem and you may want to pass my reply on to them.

It's a sign I tell ye, a SIGN!!!!!!!

We're doomed... :)

Thanks MoVe Immediate,

I will pass that along to Phil.

It help to have one computer coder put it in terms an MIT coder would understand.

My response would tend to be... huh?

;-D

Think about the possibility of this question. The expectation that technology is instantaneous and always does what we want. What happens when major portions of the technology train jump the tracks? Maybe in December we can create a site for people needing government checks to complain to the system administator. If your water is undrinkable due to dangerous chlorine levels dumped by a mindless embedded chip, post a complaint to the government.

Now doesn't make one feel better.
